The Promise - Today is the 6th Sunday of Easter, and Jesus is talking with the disciples. Having learned that Jesus is leaving them, they wonder what they will do next. "That we might have life" - Today is the second Sunday of Easter and our reading brings us into the room with disciples who are hiding for fear of the religious authorities. Grace UMC Worship - Easter Sunday - April 20, 2025 - Soddy Daisy, TN
It is Easter Sunday! We read from John's Gospel and hear Jesus tell Mary Magdalene to Go and Tell the disciples that he will be ascending to his Father, to God. Funny thing is that two of the disciples were just here and he didn't tell them himself. Hmm.

Only our Best - Today is the 5th Sunday in Lent and we read from John 12:1-8. Jesus and his disciples are gathered with Mary, Martha, and Lazarus for a dinner before Passover. Grace UMC Worship - Soddy Daisy, TN - March 23, 2025
Wasting the Soil - Today is the 3rd Sunday in Lent and we read from Luke 13:1-9. Jesus uses a parable to teach that our purpose is not to determine saints and sinners, but to produce good fruit that blesses others and shares God's love with all. You have to ask the right questions.

Back to Work - It is Transfiguration Sunday and we read from Luke 9:28-43a. Jesus seeks to help the inner three of his disciples understand who he is. They will be the standard bearers to share God's gift to the world. The trouble is that high moments on the mountain top are followed with the reality that work takes place in the valley. Thankfully, there is help for the journey.

The One of Peace - Today is the 4th Sunday of Advent and the focus is Love. To bring us to the place where love can lead us in our relationships with our sisters and brothers, we must have peace. Which of the three do you feel reflects Jesus? Military peace? Political peace? Spiritual peace? Jesus teaches us that we cannot live in peace with one another if there is no peace within us.
Grace UMC Worship - Soddy Daisy, Tenn. - December 15, 2024
Sing for Joy! - It is the third Sunday in Advent and we celebrate with Joy for the Lord God is our salvation. He is our salvation and we praise him.

Let's cut to the chase - Today is the second Sunday in Advent and we read from the prophet Malachi 3:1-4. Malachi reveals that one is coming to restore our worship of God. This is but the beginning - This is the 26th Sunday after Pentecost and we read from Mark 13:1-8 how Jerusalem will be destroyed. What is Worth Everything - It is the 25th Sunday after Pentecost and we read from Mark 12:38-44. The journey of discovery must ultimately end at the point where one finds that which one values most. The question is, what is the one thing most valuable and why is it so?

The Last Word - We celebrate All Saints Day today and share in Holy Communion. Reading from John 11:32-44 we hear Jesus' words of assurance that this physical life is not all that there is. It is the 23rd Sunday after Pentecost and we read from Mark 10:46-52. Be Doers - Reading from James 1:17-27 on the 15th Sunday after Pentecost, James reminds us that everything is from God, not for our benefit, but that we might bless others. Thus, we are to be doers of the word and not just hearers. We are also to be models of God's love through our conduct and speech. And, the blessings we share will enable others to know God's blessings, too.
Grace UMC Worship - Soddy Daisy, Tenn. - August 25, 2024
Be Strong in the Lord - This is the 14th Sunday after Pentecost and we are reading from Ephesians 6:10-20. The heart of the matter is that people are not innately evil but are subject to the same temptations that beset all humanity but without knowing how to overcome. God gives us what we need.

"Imitators of God" - It is the 12th Sunday after Pentecost and we read today from Ephesians 4:25-5:2. Paul tells the Ephesians that if you want to do something well, you have to pick the right model and practice, practice, practice. Interesting how his text is so appropriate for today.

Many Came Bearing Good News - The dispersion of Jesus-followers that took place due to persecutions in Jerusalem, allowed the good news to spread beyond Israel. It was because the message moved that the good news spread to non-Jews. And with that, the hope of the world has come to every nation. Good news truly cannot be contained.
Grace UMC Worship - Soddy Daisy, Tenn. - June 30, 2024
Welcome to our 5th Sunday Singing Service! Hope you enjoy the music and feel free to sing along if you know the words. Clapping your hands, patting your foot, and dancing are all great accompaniments to the singing, so praise the Lord with what you have!

Happy Father's Day! "Saul, Saul" Reading from Acts 9:1-6, we join Saul on the road to Damascus where he had hoped to arrest followers of "the Way." Instead, Saul is transformed from one intent on ridding the world of Jesus-followers, to one of Jesus' greatest defenders. How that happened is a miracle in line with every other miracle showing Jesus as the Messiah.
Grace UMC Worship - Soddy Daisy, Tenn. - June 2, 2024
"On the other hand..." - Today is the 2nd Sunday after Pentecost and we read a troubling history of the early church from Acts 4:36-5:10. How does the church respond when bad news comes its way? Grace UMC Worship - Soddy Daisy, Tenn. - May 26, 2024
Awe Came Upon Everyone - It is Trinity Sunday and we are reading from Acts 2:43-47. Maybe it is time to inspire a little awe in the world once again.

Happy Mother's Day! We are grateful for God's loving care so often expressed through our mothers.
Extraordinary, Ordinary People - Today's text, 1 Corinthians 1:26-28, describes a representative group of Christ-followers. The disciples were ordinary in many ways, but the effect of their work turned the world upside down. We, too, are ordinary people who, like the disciples, are seeking to transform the world through loving, caring service. Following Jesus, we have all that we need.
Grace UMC Worship - Soddy Daisy, Tenn. - May 5, 2024
Pass It On - Today is the 6th Sunday of Easter and Jesus is preparing the disciples for his ascension. They will be the ones to carry on the ministry of helping people to know God's love for them. Grace UMC Worship - Soddy Daisy, Tenn. - April 28, 2024
Stay Connected - It is the 5th Sunday of Easter and we read from John 15:1-8. With so many interpretations of Scripture, the only true source for help, healing, and hope is Jesus. We, too, must turn to him so that we can love as he loves.
Grace UMC Worship - Soddy Daisy, Tenn. - April 21, 2024

Preparing For Service - This is the first Sunday in Lent and as we see Jesus' preparations to enter in to his ministry in Mark 1:9-15, we are reminded of the gift of Lent. All of us need a time to restore and refresh our faith. Taking the time to strengthen our spiritual lives for service as a disciple helps us prepare. There is much that would distract us from serving and serving well. Lent gives us time to refocus.

Today is the 5th Sunday after the Epiphany and we read from Mark 1:29-39. Jesus continues his ministry of teaching, healing, and casting out demons. When he rises early to be alone in prayer, the disciples pursue him with the word that everyone is searching for him. Jesus, though, moves to carry his ministry to the other towns in Galilee. Now, why are the demons the only ones who know who Jesus is? Why? We celebrate Holy Communion.

What do we give? - It is the 21st Sunday after Pentecost and we are reading from Matthew 22:15-22. The money used to pay taxes bears the mark of the entity collecting the taxes. We bear the mark of God from our creation and the seal of the Holy Spirit from our baptism. Thus, it makes sense to say that we give ourselves to God for God's purposes.
